ABOUT ME
Alex ten Napel (1958, Alkmaar) lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He is known for his Alzheimer's and Water Portraits series. In 2001 he showed his Alzheimer's portraits on the walls of the 'Wittenberg' nursing home in Amsterdam and at the same time the photo book 'Forgetting your life' was published. He exhibited portraits of children in the windows of Elout primary school in Amsterdam in 2002 and in 2005 the Water Portraits series in the canals of Naarden-Vesting, Netherlands, as part of the Epson Photo Festival.
His water portraits were subsequently exhibited at the international Paris Photo art fair in Paris in 2005 and 2006. Parts from the series were nominated for the Photographic Portrait Prize 2006 of the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Prix Photographique BMW-Paris Photo 2006 in Paris. Since 1988 his autonomous work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions, and has been widely published in art and photography websites, newspapers and magazines. In 2014 he started a new photo project portraits of Hens & Roosters.
