Photo Projects by Alex ten Napel

Photo Documentaires with a Heart

An Eye for the Lives of Others

In recent years, Alex ten Napel has been commissioned by institutions and the Amsterdam Municipal Archives to capture the lives of diverse groups in portraits. Primary school children, nursing home residents, first-year students—all are subjects he has focused his camera on. With the same attention and empathy, he consistently captures the unique character of each individual. His portraits not only show faces but also open a window onto personal stories, realities, and everyday life. In this way he has built a growing photo archive of Amsterdam and its inhabitants.

Photo documentaries with a Lasting Impression

Photo documentaries by Alex ten Napel have appeared in Dutch and international newspapers and magazines. For his photo exhibitions, he chooses not obvious locations like photography galleries or museums, but rather the facade of a nursing home, the windows of a primary school, and the canals of a fortified town. These surprising locations enhance the impression and leave an impression that won't fade quickly.
